Why August Is the Perfect Time for a Fresh Start
August has always felt like a fresh start to me.
Even after retiring from public education, this time of year still reminds me of sharpened pencils, new notebooks, eager students, and the excitement of beginning something new.
Back-to-school season isn’t just for children.
It’s an opportunity for all of us to ask:
What do I want this next season of my life to look like come August?
Thinking about improving your health?
Maybe you’d like to use your gifts in a new way?
Looking for a little extra income to help with rising costs?
Or maybe you’re ready for a fresh start.
No matter where you are, I believe it’s never too late to begin again.
Sometimes the first step is simply saying, “I’m open to what’s next.”
40 Years Taught Me…
One lesson has stayed with me throughout more than four decades of teaching:
People who continue learning continue growing.
Students who improved the most weren’t always the most naturally talented.
They were the ones willing to take one small step after another.
The same is true in every area of life.
Healthy habits grow one choice at a time.
Strong voices develop one lesson at a time.
Meaningful relationships deepen one conversation at a time.
Even new opportunities begin with one simple “yes.”
Progress doesn’t require perfection.
It simply requires a willingness to keep moving forward.
For some people, a fresh start also means exploring new ways to contribute, learn, or create additional income. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy introducing people to resources and opportunities that allow them to choose their own level of involvement.
