Some of my friends love to grocery shop. I am one to get in and out, but these days, it takes me longer to shop because I am reading all the labels. Are you aware of all the bioengineered ingredients in our food? What really is in the foods we select at the grocery store?

Wouldn’t it be nice just to know that all the foods in the store were for our good and to make us healthy? Unfortunately, that is not the world we live in now.

I was blessed to have amazing parents. Lovingly, I think back on how much they always did for our family. Oh, how I miss my Dad’s backyard garden! We had all the fresh okra, peas, zucchini, tomatoes, and so much more. And they all tasted so delicious! We had a fig tree in our backyard. My Mom would put up the most scrumptious jams each year.

I’ve known for years to avoid high fructose syrups and the other more known ingredients: avoid high sugar contents, high sodium, etc.

However, we don’t know everything about the foods we select. Recently, I went through our pantry and was amazed at the foods I thought were “good.” They had the label, bioengineered ingredients, or genetically modified ingredients listed. Out the door, they went!

So what do we do? First, educate yourself and start reading labels. Next, shop the outside aisles at the grocery store and buy fresh organic foods when possible.
